Recent (2009 October) statement by BW: "THREE MILLS LOCK - construction work is complete and an official opening ceremony was held on 5th June 2009. A 350 tonne barge and small flotiilla of narrow boats organised by the Inland Waterways Association passed through the lock. "Commissioning work has been ongoing and lock usage has increased steadily to date. " Work to improve the navigation upstream of the lock, towards the Olympics Park, will be completed shortly. The channel has been dredged where required and fenders and piles are being installed, primarily to protect bridge piers and other existing infrastructure. "Three Mills Lock is now being regularly used to transport materials in and out of the Olympics park. The Green Barge Company and Bennet's Barges now move a range of construction waste ouf ot the Park. It is anticipated that commercial use of the lock will continue to increase."
