I too would prefer to fit a BETA engine. Not only is it reputed to be the BEST modern engine on the canals these days BUT BETA MARINE give the *FINEST* (Yes I really do mean this) after sales service I have ever come across. When any query, problem or advice is required, one only has to get in touch with BETA, with your particular engine number and they click on your engine computer data. Usually, they can advise there and then on the phone! I got in touch ## FOUR YEARS ## after purchasing my engine from them, (Well out of warrantee), explaining that I wanted another air intake filter holder box. I was asked why? I said the metal had fractured and it had broken. The person I spoke to, said this should not have happened. I will send you a new one F.O.C. Now how's that for excellent service? A new one arrived within a couple of days, complete with a new paper filter inside! When I made enquiries with Barrus (Shire engines), I was dealt with in a very off handed manner. One enquiry was answered: No, that's the way we do it. Take it or leave it! We won't accommodate you. I wanted a different domestic alternator fitted. Now, that doesn't ferment confidence does it? BETA on the other hand said, Yes, that's OK. Do you want us to source your paticular alternator, or do you want to supply and we will fit it for you. By the way, 6 years ago, I obtained a 27.5% Self-Build discount from BETA. A collegue of mine recently obtained a 30% discount for a replacement engine for his yacht. I suggest you go and talk to them. There, that's my pennyworth and my personal experience. Regards, ~Allan~ nb.Pengalanty
