>From my log last time we did it (on a Gold Licence BTW): Day 14: Friday 5th May 2006 Gibraltar to Mapledurham 43 miles, 16 locks 7:30 - 19:35 A very early rise, after an early night, and still a lot of miles to do. We reached Dukes Cut at 10:00, and guessed it would be quicker than travelling into Oxford. By 13:25 we were at Abingdon, and we had to do the lock by hand since the lock keeper was on lunch. We also had to hand wind Pangborne lock, which is really slow, and tiring, but we managed it (from empty) in 12 minutes. ... and down to Reading part the next day: Day 15: Saturday 6th May 2006 Mapledurham to Penton Hook 44 miles, 14 locks 08:08 - 19:05 (stop for Doctor Who) 20:20 - 21:10 Worked Mapledurham by hand, but arrived at Reading at 9:20, so we should have left earlier to make the most of manned locking! So one day easily. Shoestring manages 5.3 mph max through the water. A slightly faster than summer level flow, but nothing really big.
