I've had an Epson printer for some years and have quite happily used non pson cartridges without any problems. Now I get a message when I print telling me I've got a non Epson cartridge nd do I really want to carry on. Have they snook some bit of software on my machine ? Many Epson printers are reputed to use cartridges with built-in chips that count the number of pages you print. The theory is that the printer will stop printing before the cartridge runs out of ink. If this is true and there is something wrong with the chip, or you haven't got all the adhesicve tape off the cartridge before you install it, it's possible the printer mechanism doesn't recognise the cartridge as an Epson-branded (aka 'expensive')one.
