Have any of the DIY-ers here ever made, or considered making, their own small diesel genny?
Going through the garage t'other day I cam across a rebuilt 60amp alternator; originally intended for my lad's Volvo 340, it was never fitted and thus became the germ of an idea to drive it from a small, around 1HP, diesel engine - that could then be installed in the engine hole. Some time back I found (but have since lost) a UK supplier of these engines, at a cost below £175 each, and I figure that, for a similar expenditure again, I could end up with a useful charger - and one which did not mean I had to put hours onto the main engine either!
