A few days ago I wrote to my MP asking what Tory policy on the future of BW would be - in fact my precise words were as follows:- "In view of the present government's recent statements on the intended future of British Waterways and the forthcoming election, are you able to tell me what policy a future Conservative government would have on this topic?"
Part of the reply has come as follows (Snip):- "British Waterways has recently moved to a mutual status I can assure you that we will be paying close attention as the results of the move become clearer. The challenge is to ensure the proper maintenance and upkeep of our waterways in the future whilst releasing any surplus capital. The Conservative party recognises the crucial role BW plays in the upkeep and development of our canals etc etc." So the move to mutual has already taken place? And 'releasing any surplus capital'. I'm worried! John
