THE INLAND WATERWAYS PROTECTION SOCIETY LTD
WALK ON THE CALDON CANAL
5TH JUNE 2010
Our walk will start from Denford Car Park (SK 96077 53353 off the
A520) down to Froghall Basin Car Park (SK02277 47747 off the A52)
with a pub stop at the Black Lion at Consall for lunch.
Please meet at Froghall Car Park at 9.30. We shall then ferry some cars to
Denford where the walk will commence around 10.00 a.m.
There is an option for a return to the cars by train from Froghall Station on
the Churnet Valley Steam Railway to Cheddleton and then a further walk
to Denford. This can be arranged on the day to ensure the cars are in the
right place. I suggest that anyone wishing to take the train for the return
journey should go to the Churnet Valley Railway Web site (www.churnet-
valley-railway.co.uk/main/timetable.php) for further details of the trains
running on that day.
The Caldon is a most attractive canal part of which the IWPS walkers last
visited on 6th June 1992. Now is a good time for a re-visit so we can see
the changes around Froghall and the rest of the canal as well as the first
lock and
Basin of the Uttoxeter Canal, now restored and in use. Those with the
energycould perhaps explore some of the tramway routes in to Froghall
Basinand the limekilns.
If you intend to walk please either e-mail me on [email protected] or
telephoneme on 07795 503852 on the Friday evening 4th June after 6 p.m.
