I had a meeting last week with the SW BW manager in whose area it falls. The position is that there are a large number of issues to be sorted before it can be opened, individually fairly small but collectively a substantial problem. It is hoped (but not guaranteed) to open it later this year; it will almost certainly not be open until after the August peak in traffic; initial opening might be on a trial basis with restrictions whilst final snagging is completed. One of the problems is the need to avoid diluting the saline river Salwarpe which has an interesting ecology. The junction canal's opening is still dependent on sorting the short "missing link". -- Martin Phillips [email protected]
