Trevor was the limit of our cruise on Tuesday evening and despite numerous
messages of encouragement from many quarters we stuck with the plan to
take the bus to Llangollem on Wednesday. 4 buses per hour, £1.50 ea, dog
went free. Had a bit of a wander around and worried the dog by lengthy
peering into the Welsh taxidermist’s window. There weren’t any sheep on
display – probably in the back room.

Watched the return of first steam rail excursion of the day. All very
dignified. Looked at the 1974 pictures of the stripped out station post
Beeching. 12 years to decay, how many to restore. Will we learn ?

The basin was about ¼ full with visitors, mainly hirers and the town was
busy under a clear blue sky. Pub lunch (Chile vs Honduras) preceded the
walk back to Trevor and it was clear that the concrete lined last few
miles were no doubt less troublesome to a deep drafter than the section
between Frankton and Trevor – which in places is pretty dire.

We decided to un-rope and head back across the P-thing, mooring in the
shade after the lift bridge and the offside permanent moorings.
