#1 until Marvin/Catherine are convinced of #2 (since they would be
doing any updates to AltAuthModule).

I suggest we tag the current repo with a Milestone tag, and then Scott
can go forward with his changes.  This will break AltAuthModule, but
more importantly will concretely show the path that will most likely
lead to #2.
