Thanks, I'd come to the conclusion also that it's WIF claims based. How
that integrates with CAS is a mystery to me at this time (I am not a
developer :-)), but will start by reading the links provided.
We will probably have someone write this (any recommendations for
software consultants in this arena are appreciated), and donate whatever
we come up with back to the community.
Any other suggestions are welcome...

Hi,
It looks like SharePoint 2010 relies on WIF (Windows Identity Foundation) for
claims-based Forms authentication. It looks like this is a different
authentication mechanism than the classic ASP.NET Forms Authentication
mechanism in ASP.NET 1.0-4.0. I don't think the .NET CAS Client supports WIF
at this point, though it looks like it would be relatively straightforward to
wire-up a CAS server as an identity provider in WIF.

Subject: Re: [cas-user] Sharepoint 2010 and CAS
I believe this integration is possible with the .NET CAS Client,
https://wiki.jasig.org/display/CASC/.Net+Cas+Client. I was working with a
colleague in another department to prototype the integration, and we had some
success but my lack of knowledge of Sharepoint limited our progress and the
effort fizzled. Getting this working will require a Sharepoint expert who is
very familiar with the XML configuration and can help navigate the complex
interaction between ASP.NET Forms authentication, Sharepoint, and the complex
Sharepoint authorization setup. If you have that expertise, I'd be happy to
collaborate with you on the integration. I know it would be helpful for us
here at Virginia Tech, as well as to the broader community. I have a feeling
that once we build it, so to speak, folks will come.
