Thanks for this info. I will use this to help put pressure on getting our CAS install updated to 3.5.0 as soon as possible.
At this point in time, one of my coworkers has written a new check that we are using, and is adequate for several of our hosts -- it both supports /cas/login, as well as accessing CAS protected resources and validating that they are loading correctly. As soon as we get the approvals to release the code, I will upload it to the wiki.
