You can look into the ThrottledSubmissionByIpAddressHandlerInterceptorAdapter in the package org.jasig.cas.web.support for some clues. ThrottledSubmissionByIpAddressHandlerInterceptorAdapter try to log the user's ip if the user's login fail.
