Hi Oren, I seem to remember having this problem myself a while back. My memory is a bit hazy, but I seem to remember that in one of the ioreg modes I could write values >2^31, and in the other one I couldn't. I just can't remember which was which.
If I had to guess, I'd say that you should try writing in the binary mode because the ASCII mode is broken.
