this example from hibernate documentation:

from Cat as cat
    left join cat.kittens as kitten
        with kitten.bodyWeight > 10.0

Doesn't work in NHibernate. I've read several tickets about it in the 
JIRA-tracker for NHibernate, but no real solution on how to solve it with 
another approach.

What I want to do is to select all cats that doesn't have kitten with 
bodyWeight > 10, meaning, I need to to a 

WHERE kitten IS NULL

But if I cannot left join with an ON-like statement, I can never check that you 
don't have a relation between Cat and kitten.
