Tethered, yes.  However, do not forget the PFD.  You wouldn't need to spend the extra cash for an automatic inflatable...a manual will do fine.  Quick enough reflexes could have it inflated before hitting the ground.

Tomorrow I'll be on the Celtic Pride and hoping not to go o.b. as I try to untwist the jib halyard at the top of the roller furler.
