That A4 lever is a dangerous thing. A couple of years back we were anchored in Beaverstone Bay at the very north end of Georgian Bay waiting out a serious 2-day blow. Being bored (first mistake) and wanting to occupy and entertain my then 4--year-od daughter (second mistake) we decided to wash the boat.... which needed it after 3 weeks of cruising. To make a long story short I slipped on the slippery wet compaionway hatch and fell into the cockpit, managing with great grace to catch my second toe on the shifter....
broke the toe
broker the shifter
Taped up my broken toe until I finally got to a hospital in Parry Sound three days later.
Taped the shifter back together with the help of pipe clamps.
It lasted until I finally managed to install a replacement in Trento Ontaio this summer, part way through my 3-month cirumnavigation of the great lakes.....
(Much thanks to fellow lister Dan Hardiman for the part!!!)
Point of the story, beware the A4 control stand, verrrry scary!

One is to go out in wider waters from a sheltered place.
The other is to go into a sheltered place from wider waters".
