Thanks to the list.NEVER eliminate access to a thru hull.
As I began my inquiry, I noted that I had always felt that it was risky to obstruct access to thru-hulls. Bob said it more difinitively than anyone else as he confirmed my original assumption.

And, after a couple of replies, I've decided against the v-berth locker. I'm sticking with my present set-up: my present 9 gallon holding tank is in the aft, starboard settee locker. Thus, I have a rather lengthy discharge hose, which requires a lot of pumping to clear. Naturally, pumping this much water through the hose means the tank fills quickly. At least it does with the First Mate onboard.
I've managed for a number of years, so I'm staying with what I've got. And, I won't lose any sleep wondering if the depth sounder might break loose somehow. Naturally, Bob, I would never obstruct a thru-hull with a hose/valve attachment!
