I've been told the same thing. Put the engine in reverese gear when
you are sailing (and the engine is off; of course). This will keep the
prop from spinning while the boat is moving. I realy don't think the extra
speed gained by not having the prop spin will amount to much , but I can see how
not having the prop and transmission spin all the time would be better for the
transmission; not as much wear and tear.
