Mine was sealed to the outside world - well it was until I did the wheel conversion but I boxed in the drive wheel so now it's more or less sealed to the outside world until it fills up over the top of the box I added - it's always been sort of a pain since if rainwater gets inside because the little tiny weep holes get plugged I have to bail it out by hand

Bob,  Sink?  I hope not.  My lazerette is not sealed, it's just the aft part of the boat.  The cockpit drains go out the bottom of the boat at the stern.  The bilge pump lines go thru the lazerette and exit via a fitting about 3 inches above the waterline on the stern.
