Mike, You can certainly mount an outboard on the transom with a bracket. One advantage to doing so, is that it doesn't impose any restrictions on the size like the transom cutout does. I have found that controlling the motor can be VERY cumbersome, however, and found it necessary to run remote control lines into the cockpit.
