I think I will respectfully disagree with some of Bob's points. I have both kinds on Whiskey Girl, and the automatic has the built-in harness. The auto can be placed into manual mode if you desire. I think I can live with accidental inflation in a rainstorm or when they are put away wet in a locker, as some have reported. What I want is for it to work if I go over the side and hit my head or otherwise do some damage that will prevent me from inflating it myself.
Everybody should decide what level of risk they want to take, and what scenarios bother them the most. That happens to be one of mine.
