Well, I thought about this a lot.  For one thing, I'm only putting in about 
150 pounds of chain, plus a 27 lb. Bruce for my main anchor.  For another 
thing, I'm planning on using a long PVC guide tube and dropping the chain well 
down into a special locker under the V-berth instead of letting it share the 
space with the 240 feet of nylon braid rode in the existing locker (I'll use 
that for the Danforth kedge).  So I'm adding weight, but below the waterline, 
and getting back almost toward the keel, which should reduce hobby-horsing.  
And all you people gripe about the C-27's riding low in the stern anyway, 
right?  Maybe this will help correct the waterline problem (where the 
watermarks aren't parallel to the factory waterline).  

I'm not racing--I'm cruising.  If I were going racing, I'd take the anchor and 
chain out anyway--easy enough...
