That is the way I have the vang and main sheet block set up on my 1982 C-27.  I'm not sure if that is the way it was...I took the boom off and couldn't remember exactly how it was set up. My friend John of the Escapade and I walked around the boat yard looking for an idea of the connecting points and decided to connect vang above the mainsheet block.  It seems that it should work well but have not really tested it yet.   I've been out on two brief sails but nothing that would really test the set up.
