I use a solar panel tor keep the batteries charged. Works well. No electrolysis concerns. Cost-effective. Maintenance free. To check the charge state of the batteries I use a simple digital meter from AutoZone, that costs about $13.00, and plugs into the "cigarette lighter" outlet.   Bob
