No, he means exactly alike.

 

Unless you’ve converted your boat to a high compression big block Chevy the starter draw is less than a tenth of good starting battery. My last trolling motor (a typical deep cycle load) drew 65 amps on high. I expect a small inboard auxiliary engine starter draws less than a good sized trolling motor.

 

I’ve never measured what our starter actually draws but out stock 40 amp shore power changer will jump start the diesel while running the glow plugs.

 

The answer is two deep cycles are prefect.

It appears I am in the market for two new batteries, deep cycle and a starter.

 

Question

 

I have read Don Casey and monitored this site and have learned both batteries should be replaced at the same time and only alike batteries should be charged together.  For charging purposes, is a  deep cycle and a starter considered alike?
