Gerhard I recently had the same problem starting my M-18 Diesel.  It would start on the #1 battery, but not the #2.  I drove myself crazy checking and emery-cloth cleaning each connection between the Batteries and the 3 way relay switch with negative results.  Finally I just removed both Sears Marine batteries (still under partial warrantee), and purchased two new ones from Sears.  I now have no problem starting the engine.  Lesson...."Don't overlook the most obvious in search of another hidden cause"   Good Luck   Andy Slow"MO"tion 1985 T/Rig  #6038 Nyack, NY
