When I first bought my '86 27 4 years ago, I only got around 1800 and also
very sooty. I had a mechanic pull the injectors and clean them (with a
steel brush) and it immediately would get to 3000. Turns out one injector
was so dirty it was barely doing anything. I can't remember exactly but I
think it was 2 hours of work.

Good luck,

Sebastian

Subject: catalina27-talk: M-18 Injectors

My M-18 may be in need of new injectors. Can't get more than 2200 RPM and
the transom gets very sooty. Has anyone replaced (or possibly cleaned)
theirs and if so, are there any gotcha's with the removal/replacement? The
cost is outrageous (nearly $300 each) so I'm obviously reluctant to make
that purchase.
