A full batten is a mixed blessing. A full batten is more forgiving of sloppy
sail trim, on the other hand it is harder to read than a standard battened
sail. If you were use to just seeing the pressure on the cloth you'll find
you need to get back to ribbons.  

 

Another plus is certainly flaking the sail or not needing to do much to
flake the sail using the Dutchman.

 

I think I'd go loose footed but you really have to be careful the loose foot
will not drop down to rub on the dodger or bimini. Sunbrella is tenuous in
the sun but rubs to pieces if anything rubs on it.

 

Of course the real answer is Catalina knows what works and what like minded
customers want and they all go full battens.

Phil - TF - et al.  Any thoughts on full batten main for cruising?  Santa
about to give me new sail..  Some say two plus two way to go.  Also
suggestion on "shelf" on foot of sail?   Have had an opinion from C30 list
