The other thing I've seen is a great big piece o'foam that's strapped to the bottom of the dinghy transom, and then the bow of the dinghy is hauled up the rear (or side) of your boat so that the only thing in the water is the floatation material. Sort of like you'd partially haul an inflatable, except it's not inflatable. I suppose you could use a kiddie pool or cheapo inflatable boat for the floatation at the dinghy stern.
