I've never answered anyone on here before so I hope I don't screw up. I have
a 83 27 ft. with a 5411 raw water cooled. My manual says it should run
between 135 and 150 degrees.
If you run a raw water cooled at higher temperature like a fresh water
cooled, the salts in the water can boiler scale up your engine and you will
develop hot spots where it can no longer cool properly.
The thermostat bypass line that runs back to the intake line is supposed to
go through a mixing (tee??) I don't have one. I assume its just a tee with a
fixed orfice. On my bypass line there is a half inch ball valve
that I adjust to get the temp in the 140 to 150. This is handy that if you
are pushing it in warmer weather you just turn the vale off more. Use
caution changing the thermostat. The replacement should have
two one eighth dia. bypass holes in it.

I think you are probably ok. You can always try restricting the intake
valve to raise the temperature but I would first check to be sure your gauge
is accurate. Normally, I believe, you should be running at 180.

That seems a bit cool. You can't adjust it, just buy a new one, their
cheap and relatively easy to replace. Running that cool you might end up
with carbon build ups, poor efficiency, global warming - possibly destroying
the entire planet. I'd look at it.

Has anyone adjusted their thermostat?
If so, how.
