I have a theoretical question. I have a loose footed main. With that in mind 
and knowing that the sail only contacts the boom in two locations, does the 
vang serve any purpose? I can tighten the luff with the Cunningham and the foot 
with the outhaul.

  Here they are, hopefully accurate this time.  Last time I goofed the 
recopying.  Of course, Loos Gauge Model A is used for the 5/32nds lowers, and 
Model B for the uppers and forsestay and back stay.

  Uppers:  Loos B 640
  Aft lowers Loos A 350
  Forward Lowers A 350

  Forestay  Loos B 440 with backstay adjuster off.  750 with adjuster full on.

  Backstay with adjuster off   Loos B 380

  These are markedly tighter than the mean of the figures for the four boats, 
but still well under the highest settings used by one of the boats.  These 
settings give me no sag  in 20 kt and, if I remember correctly, in even more.

  Depends on what wants, I guess.  John's setting is very loose, and his is the 
boat to beat in our races.  But some, as is obvious, prefer a tight rig.

  The forestay and backstay settings are experimentally arrived at, and from 
measuring a couple of local boats:

  I'm told that these figures vary according to what different sailmakers 
recommend.

  I have the gauges and will be glad to go to any local boat that wants to use 
them.

      Lance -     I am pretty sure that was put together by Carl Schaefer a few 
       years back and ALL the boats on that list are racing boats and  they 
require mast rake from the adjustable backstay.       I am very surprised that 
Hi Tide's tensions are as high as shown.     Please set up your boats (I assume 
by your title that you are        setting the boats up to cruise) tighter than
