Dave,
Did you retain part of it to use as an emergency tiller? I found out,
relatively painlessly, that you need an emergency tiller. Just as I was
backing out of the slip I turned the wheel and noticed some slack in the
cables.
When the rudder hit the stops the cable on the slack side decided to fall out
of the quadrant. It was easy enough to put it back on but if it had been worse
I would have been up the creek without a rudder. I didn't have a tiller so I
made one to hopefully never use!
