Paul - The main reason to go to the split backstay is for an ADJUSTABLE backstay. You can still do an adjustable backstay with a cascading series of blocks, but it just isn't nearly as reactive to the force put upon it. I believe that my cascading backstay is only 4:1 when the splits are 6:1 and that is a huge difference. Chris D toy box eastport, md
