Bob, you could also save a trip to the Evil Empire and about $13 if you have
a Wal-Mart nearby. They're carrying a white marine epoxy putty stick, also
2 oz., that even can be applied underwater-but thankfully your, um, buddy's
brother-in-law wasn't such a big idiot that the hole ended up below the
waterline-although you can bet it would be below the HEELED waterline,
right? Anyway, Wal-Mart is only charging two bucks-if you find this in the
hardware/adhesive section. True to form, if you instead purchase an
identical putty stick on a different blister pack from the little Wal-Mart
BOATING section, you'll pay four bucks and change. I guess they're the Not
Quite As Evil Empire. Although your opinion may be different.

Hi, Ebolean--

For a little thing like that, I think I would just use Marinetex, available
from West Marine
(http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001

.

Obviously, prep the wound so that you get a good-looking outer repair, but
it's more or less like filling any other little hole and sanding over it.
You will probably get a repair that's as invisible as you would want.

You will not have compromised the hull strength unless you find a way to let
moisture into the lamination over the long term, which does happen, but
probably wouldn't occur in your situation.

BTW, when we speak of this kind of error, this is how we do it:

I have a buddy whose brother-in-law drilled a hole in the hull of his
boat
and he is wondering what to use for repairs . . .

Sigh

I now have a small (<0.125 inch diameter) hole in my hull above the
waterline. Don't ask how it got there - it is related to trying to string
some wire from the holding tank into the head. What lunacy!!

Can anyone suggest how best to go about repairing this idiot-created hole?
Is it a job for a professional? Have I compromised the strength of the
hull?

Thanks for any insight - especially if based on your experience or
observations.
