Chris -

I have only been to Newport a few times, but there are some great spots.
Try to see the sailing museum. I don't even know the real name, but they have
some great displays and a couple of 12 m on the dock.

And there is a great place for littlenecks right on the main drag. Again,
don't know the name, but there is an outside staircase to the upstairs
restaurant. The staircase is on the right side of the building and they have
bowls
of littlenecks in 3 different sauces. Awesome if you like clams.

Most of the time I have been there was during boat shows, so things are very
different than a normal weekend. There is also a lobster processing plant
on the docks that will steam you a lobster for next to nothing. We took them
out to the park by the NYYC peninsula. BUT they don't offer butter so we had
to buy some other stuff from a local restaurant and ask for extra butter to
go...

Sorry I can't be more specific, but it is a great town. Hard to go wrong.

Also try to see the IYRS. Basically a yacht building trade school, but
they teach the old techniques. _http://www.iyrs.org/_ (http://www.iyrs.org/)

I was hoping some of the locals or closer to locals could be more specific,
but thought I would throw a few things out.
