Take a good flashlight and open up the starboard access panel over the V-berth. You'll see the original color of the gelcoat in the stripe area telegraphing through the fiberglass both for the bootstripe and the sheer stripe (gunwale stripe). At least, that's the way it is on my 1977 #3465. The stripes were laid in gelcoat first, then the white gelcoat was sprayed into the mold, and then the layups started. It's fairly obvious on my boat.
