John According to the manual, "...fill the gear box with the prescribed oil up to the top mark on the dipstick". It also states, "When checking the oil level, dipstick to be inserted only - do not screw in". And then tighten the dipstick after checking the level. Hope this helps. John Jennings

I have a Universal 11 hp inboard desiel. The dip stick is a bolt on top of the trans.When I unscrew it ,the dip stick is about 3inches long. The only mark is a cut on the stick about one half inch from the bottom of the stick. There is so little space I think this is the add fluid notch, but where is the full mark?
