Hi Patrick-It's me again. I am now about ready to pull my old Petter out of the engine compartment. When you pulled yours did you lift it off the engine mounts (seems like this would be be difficult) or did you unbolt the mounts from the hull engine support and slide it onto plywood?--Thanks again for you help.--Ron ----- Original Message ----- From: Patrick R Ford<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 21, 2006 9:27 AM Subject: Re: catalina27-talk: Petter Diesel single cyl fuel filter
Ron, I had mine done in Milwaukee, WI. They no longer make the water-cooled version. The same engine air-cooled is made. If your cylinder is good most other parts are available Petter is now Lister-Petter USA (They could give you local dealer location ) 815 E 56 Highway Olathe, KS 66061 800-888-3512 [EMAIL PROTECTED],com<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED],com> I talked with Scott @ Brown Engineering / Royal Power 909 W 16th St New Port Beach, CA 92663 949-642-1075 They rebuild them and will ship back and forth. I believe he was with Catalina when they were using Petter diesels My cost was Parts $1024 Labor $1768 Total with Tax & misc $2975 PO had replaced the exhaust system 2 years previous The reason I had mine done it was leaking water, hairline crack of the water jacket around the cylinder/block. They welded and bored the cylinder. It runs super, starts on the 2nd or 3rd rpm. With factory prop full throttle it turns 2950 to 3050 rpms. About 4.7 on my knot meter, 5.3 ot 5.5 on my GPS motoring with sails down. If I were a coastal sailer with strong winds and heavy seas I would like more HP. Coming in with strong headwind and 4-5 ft seas I'm sure water speed is a lot less than 4-5 knots. Also had an additional Rancor filter installed. How often would you change the original filter Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 20, 2006 10:24 AM Subject: Re: catalina27-talk: Petter Diesel single cyl fuel filter Yep. Mine was right in front, left the engine in place. Replaced it with one from the local kenworth dealer - figure that ought to last a few hundred years with the amount of fuel we burn.
