Bob, I have the same problem with my genova. The first thing we try is to pass the end of the leech-line under the line before it goes thru the jam cleat and pull it tight. If that doesnt work, like in conditions where we are experiencing excessive boat speed, then we add a half hitch. This makes it more difficult to adjust but I dont have any other ideas that are inexpensive.
BTW, I have never experienced excessive boat speed while racing sailboats.
