As fas as Propane is concerned: I agree, a big propane tank below is an issue and should be avoided at all costs.

But those little 400 gram bernzomatic tanks you hook into a camp-style one-burner are not, in my opinion, terribly dangerous when handled properly. Building a more stable base housing is also very easy: with just a jig-saw and a round template and some plywood, you can make the thing almost impossible to tip over.

A helluva lot more reliable and convenient and at no real sacrifice to safety...plus they can be stowed easily and
the space-savings are nice.

I think the very first thing I told to take a hike was: my Princess.
