I hate the thought of holes in the hull.
?
I also mounted mine as far aft under the V-Berth as possible on centerline.?
Instead of an epoxy or silicone puddle, I fitted a threaded 3" PVC female pipe
fitting to the hull to make it plumb, and then epoxied that in place.? I then
filled the fitting with mineral oil and screwed the transducer in mounted to a
PVC pipe plug.? No problems in 2 seasons, but I was carrying around a couple
ounces of oil if?I needed to top it up.? Been reliable enough that it didn't
make the on-board race kit for this year.

The first one was in?an Elite 32 I used to have. It worked great. You do loose
some sensitivity but only on the "deep" side.

?

I mounted?mine under the V berth as far aft as I could get it.

?

It will only work if there?are NO air pockets (however small)?between the
transducer and the water, either in the hull (won't work with a cored hull)?or
your installation.

?

I used a "beer" cup for the installation. I sanded the gelcoat/paint off the
interior hull surface and wiped it down with acetone. Then cut the bottom out
of the cup and siliconed it (upside down) to the hull and suspended the
transducer in it with a wooden dowel and some string.?Then (careful not to
"whip" in?any air) mixed some slow cure west system epoxy and filled up the
inverted cup.

?

On subsequent installations for customers, I used?a short length of PVC and
beveled it so as to make it?plumb and not 90 degrees to what ever angle the
hull is.

Also the epoxy my cause (thru heat or chemical reaction) a "beer cup" to melt.
I got lucky in that the epoxy cured before my cup completely melted. It was
ugly but it worked.

Hey Listers,

Have any of you made an installation with your transducer located inside the
hull?? If so, where did you mount it?

All the best
