Attached is a photo of the integrated block and cam cleat fitting on the end of my traveler. You also can see center car to which the mainsheet is attached. I have a '76 C27 (#2784) and believe this to be OEM, but can't swear to it. In any case, this is my set-up.
I tend to sit fairly far aft in my cockpit: I work the main in the puffs, and
have never found it a big deal to reach across to release the traveler
line(s). I'm not a racer; truth it, I mostly keep the traveler just a little
off-center to keep the mainsheet fiddle block away from the traveler car.
