I replaced my Glow Plug switch with a Single pole Double throw ( SPDT)
Momentary Bat (Toggle) handle switch.
Often sold as (ON)-OFF-(ON). Para thesis indicates Momentary.
I wanted the Double Throw so I could power the Glow Plug by lifting up or
pushing down.
A simple Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) MOMENTARY would work quite well..
Sometimes these switches are listed as " (On)-OFF " The parenthesis
indicating Momentary.
Be cautious that Any switch you use that is NOT a Momentary.
There are many places one can find such switches. Some will be of Marine
grade. Ebay has several.
There are some "marine" rocker type. But they would require cutting a Square
opening for the switch.
I assume your old pushbutton has a standard 1/2 inch round hole. My 1984 does.
Most standard Bat (Toggle) Handle switches will fit that hole.(Not the
"miniatures" of course).
I avoided replacing with another Pushbutton switch.
While there are some that are solidly built.They can be quite expensive.
Cheaper Pushbuttons aren't sturdy enough ..for me.
If possible buy the Marine type (water protected).. Although Rubber boots can
be available to cover many switches.

I noticed recently that when I turn on the keyed engine switch, the battery
charge/discharge gauge shows more of a discharge than normal. I suspected the
Glow plug switch was shorted such that turning the ignition switch on
immediately enables the glow plugs. So today, I turned on the ignition switch,
waited 30 seconds and was able to start the Universal M-18 without having to
press the separate push button switch for the glow plugs....so indeed, it would
appear the switch is shorted.
So my question is, has anyone purchased one of these push button
(momentary) switches recently and if so, where. I did some searching on a
number of sites but came up empty. I'll start calling them unless someone has
a reference site.
