Dear Friends:
We have had another setback. The stent that they placed in Adam's aorta
yesterday collapsed. They do not believe he is in any immediate danger but
believe they need to go ahead and do the surgery they had wanted to avoid.
This
involves cutting open Adam's chest and stitching a graft in the aorta to
repair it. This is the real fix. It would mean they take out the stents and
Adam would not have to have yearly catscans. Dr. Griffith, chief of cardiac
surgery for the University of Maryland Medical Center, will be performing the
surgery. He said they didn't want to do the surgery last week because the
blood
thinners used would cause problems with the other wounds/injuries/surgeries.
The stents have bought almost a week of healing and Dr. Griffith believes
the surgery will be successful. Adam, despite all of his injuries, is
healthier than most of the people on whom they perform this surgery. However,
it
still carries risk.
Dr. Griffith is planning on waiting until morning to perform the surgery so
they have their A team there. However, if the shock trauma folks are nervous
he will go ahead and stay to do the surgery.
So, pray, pray, pray!
Pray:
• Dr. Griffith and his team will be well rested and work well together
• Adam's body will heal even quicker before the surgery
• Adam will do well in the surgery and continue to heal afterwards
• Adam will not develop any infections
A pastor friend of mine, Fred Dyer, was sent a couple of Bible verses to
encourage us re: Adam by one of his church members. She was deeply moved by
the
stranger who held Adam's head up right after the wreck so he could keep
breathing. The verses she shared are from Psalm 3:2-4, Many are saying of me.
"God
will not deliver him." But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow
glory on me and lift up my head. To the LORD I cry aloud, and he answers me
from
His holy hill.
Please ask God to continue to lift up Adam's head.
