Dear Friends:
Adam has had several good days in a row. He has texted friends on the
computer, listened to voice mails on his phone, entertained visitors, and made
one
phone call (he can only whisper with the voice valve on his trac). The goal
is to transfer him to Good Samaritan Hospital for rehab tomorrow (Monday,
November 17). Today he expressed readiness to move on to rehab which we
consider
very exciting.
The MRI came back and showed some shearing injury to the brain; however, the
doctors are very positive about Adam overcoming this because he is so high
functioning at this time. He needs to eat more so they can take the feeding
tube out but he has a fear of vomiting and aspirating again.
They have continued to reduce the size of his tracheostomy and it will
probably be just a few days before he can return to breathing through his nose.
Dr. Scalea and Dr. Griffith stronger recommended the PICC line so that Adam can
get strong antibiotics to protect the aorta graft from infections and we are
certainly grateful to them for their work in Adam's life. We did find out
that Adam can come home with the PICC line. We will be trained on flushing
the
line and setting up the IV and IV pump. We hope to know in a day or two a
rough "guess" to when Adam will be able to come home.
Please pray:
• Adam's strength will continue to grow
• For those who will be working with him at Good Sam's that they will be
discerning, motivating, and healing
• Adam's aorta graft is and will remain free from infection
• Adam will be at peace with the move and regain his appetite
• That we will represent Christ well in dealing with those who care for
our son
Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)
I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
In the ancient days hills and mountains meant danger. That danger could be
from the terrain or from bandits. As a person would be entering a hilly or
mountainous area they would be concerned about their safety. Here the
Psalmist says when entering dangerous territory the Lord is his help. As we
have
journeyed through these past 32 days God has provided help in so many ways:
good
Samaritans who stopped, the emergency responders, Med-Evac, Shock Trauma,
Family, Friends and the work of His Holy Spirit.
May God richly bless you!
