I somehow got it running fine now. I did not regenerate the classes though.
I tried out different settings in the Modeller for Container -Managed
Transactions and Use Shared Cache. I also switched to a JNDI Datasource.
Finally I am back to the initial settings and it still runs fine. I noticed
that stale serialized sessions can cause problems when changing the
settings without cleaning the tomcat work dir. Maybe that was the problem.

If everything compiled, you probably don't have to do this.   But if
you're using the default templates anyways, I'd recommend doing it --
it won't hurt anything, and it might help.
