I see. So this is the Modeler (and a RAD tool) based on MS Excel as a
GUI. Can't say that you sold me on it... I totally agree about
CayenneModeler needing further improvement, although I don't think
that integrating with Excel is a better investment of time compared
to improving CayenneModeler.
But if this works for you, I'd say go for it - the beauty of open
source is that you can create new stuff without looking back to what
other people say. Certainly drop a note to this list (or the user
list) once your tool is ready for download.
Good luck!

Actually the story had been all about developing a web application
with
cayenne. Then I decided to develop a web application generator. It is
difficult to use Cayenne Modeler for me. It is a good tool, but I
do not
really like much mouse movements. So to me excel usage would be
very easy. I
thougth that a sheet describing all details of one table could be
enough to
succeed. All program details would be included in a excel file.
What is program name ?
How many tables in it ?
Which table has which columns ?
...
Furthermore, I develop a tool for modeling database, with the help of
cayenne xml mappings. It generates not only mappings, it generates
a whole
web application.
The answer is yes for the question opensource development. After
one or two
weeks. I will put this generator to Source Forge.
Excel Modeler could be an alternative for Cayenne Swing Modeler.
I need support for this.
Thanx for your reply.
Afsin.

Hi Afsin,
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. Timezone changes,
Cayenne graduation voting and similar excuses :-)
There is a bit of a language barrier (that hopefully shouldn't make
it a show stopper). You provide the number of details, but I am still
in the dark what this tool is going to accomplish. Could you please
explain in a few words what the goal is? Is it to access Microsoft
Excel spreadsheet data via Cayenne, or is it something else? Also are
you developing (or planning to develop) it as an open source project?
Cheers,
