Just in case some of you have had difficulty getting bird e-mails this past wk. or so & were just a slight bit aggravated, you weren't alone. Suddenly, yesterday, I began to get e-mails, 43 in the 1st "batch" & the earliest was from 8 April but as they came from outer space, the dates were all jumbled. Must have been the weather fronts that scrambled everything! More came today.
Factory Pond boasted one female Buffle & a magnificent male Wood duck this a.m.. Mill pond had 5 prs. of Buffles. Two Grackles were looking in Screechie's duck box on Factory pond. John & I lived 20 yrs. in Dryden on Lee Rd. & we've been here for a mo. shy of 21 yrs.. For many yrs. beef cattle made their home in the field west of where the Geo. Rd. "pond" is/was. The '72 Agnes flood, if I recall, put an end to the RR useage. Then again, it might have been the floods of '81 or '82. At some point, the cattle were replaced by horses on both sides of the road. I didn't know about the beaver dam. I thought that a drain pipe for the stream that went under the RR had finally, after the extensive flooding the night of the '81 cloudburst, had just filled with mung that caused the pond. I wonder how far the village line extends towards George Jr. Republic (the way I know it) & if the RR bed west of Springhouse Rd. would actually be in the Town of Dryden, not in the village. Perhaps Dryden Attorney Mike Lane, a member of the Tompkins Co. Legislature could/would give you some helpful input. According to the village map I have, Springhouse Rd. is the border between the village & the town. Just a bit of input/thoughts.
