Ann Mitchell and I went out looking for owls yesterday evening, stating early enough to heard Woodcocks as well. We found what I will confidently say were at least 5 individual Woodcock behind the airport near where Snyder and Mohawk meet. We were in the vicinity till well after 9 but could not raise a hoot in terms of owls (tried for Saw-whet, Screech and Barred in that order in various spots along Mohawk and Neimi Rds.) Afterwards we stopped on Sapsucker Woods Rd at the trail crossing, only trying for Barred, with the same result...
I have not heard any Woodcock at home, but have only been listening in a cursory manner as our upper fields, where we regularly have them, are still snow covered...
